My Education and Work Experience

I was drawn to helping others as a young girl.  Beginning in elementary school and until I started preparing for my career as a therapist, I worked with children with special needs, taught swim lessons at the local YMCA, and worked as a camp counsellor at residential summer camps.

Once I decided that being a therapist was the career that combined my desire to help others and my curiosity about psychology, I chose to work in women’s shelters, on a crisis line for assault survivors, and an HIV/AIDS help line to gain additional skills and experience.

I completed a Master of Counselling (MC) degree from the University of Calgary in 2019.  As a part of my degree, I worked as an intern therapist at York University’s counseling center from 2018 - 2019, where I treated university students with concerns related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem deficits, bullying, emotionally immature parents, and abuse.

My experience up to that point taught me that trauma is the root of most mental health concerns.  So, when I started my private practice, I chose trauma as my specialty and completed my Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training.

My ongoing learning involves further knowledge and understanding of attachment theory, dissociation, and how trauma impacts romantic relationships.
